Narrative Driven Games I Can’t Wait To Get My Hands On In 2018

Ah, how I love a good story based video game. Luckily for us, 2018 is set to be a year full of exciting new games, sequels and finales in the story based and narrative driven category.

Here are some of my favourites I’m looking forward to. These games are all currently set for 2018 release. Hopefully there won’t be any delays whilst we patiently wait to get our hands on them.

Detroit: Become Human

The minds behind Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls are back with another intense and exciting story. Quantic Dream games will always hold a place in my library for helping introduce me to the art of storytelling in video games. These cinematic experiences created will no doubt resonate in their latest addition Detroit: Become Human.

I’m incredibly happy to be jumping into the vampire genre again. Although some may wonder whether the genre should stay in the past, I on the otherhand can’t wait to embrace it. We’ve all watched a vampire film or read a vampire classic but we’ve never really been in the shoes of the vampire e.g. being in control of their decision-making or their moral dilemmas when deciding whose life to take in order to survive. This exploration into the protagonist’s struggle of their dwindling humanity will be fascinating to explore in Vampyr and I can’t wait to see how the story pans out.

Far Cry 5

The Far Cry universe is a new one to me. My first taste was at the Auckland Armageddon Expo in October where I was able to play the demo for approximately twenty minutes. I know what you’re thinking, how can you jump into the 5th game without playing the others? You’re crazy. Despite this, it does seem like a standalone story and one that anybody should be able to jump into. The overall world-building and action packed missions in Far Cry 5 demo left me wanting more. Plus who doesn’t love an open world setting to explore to your hearts content?

Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season

Although season four will be the final installment in the Telltale Walking Dead universe (*sad face*), I’m still very much looking forward to the next installment. The character of Clementine has become such a pop culture icon for gamers of this generation that I’m sure we’ll be bawling our eyes out as we say goodbye to her and other characters. Let’s just hope there is such a thing as a happy ending in an apocalyptic universe!

The Last of Us Part II

Oh The Last of Us, how I miss you greatly. The highly anticipated sequel The Last of Us Part II is set for a 2018 release and has thus far teased us with two clips. Saying this, these clips look amazing and although it’s difficult to pull an opinion together based on these, if the last game’s anything to go by, I’m sure we’re in for an emotionally driven and action packed whirlwind.

Are you excited for these games too? Do you have any recommendations? Let me know in the comments!
